60 Orphans of Social House Visit TMII

As many as 60 orphans from several social houses in South Jakarta, West Jakarta, and Cisalak, Bogor, West Java, Monday (7/15), visited Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII).

TMII Public Relation Section Head, Novera Mayang, said this program is her side's collaboration with one of private television stations and Persaudaraan Setia Hati Terate (PSHT) silat school, due to welcome National Children's Day on July 23.

"This cultural exploration activity is in commemoration of National Children's Day," she said.

Mayang added that the orphans were invited in a tour to Batik Museum and Indonesia Museum. Moreover, they also received free health checks and gifts.

"PSHT fighters also taught them basic anti-bullying martial art technique," she added.

Meanwhile, Endang Sawitri, a fighter from PSHT, explained the basic training was given to prevent orphans getting bullying.

Apart from that, the children were also presented with empty hand martial arts and weapons performances by a number of PSHT junior silat athletes.

There was also an action by a 15 year old disabled martial arts athlete, Muhammad Harbi Bilkitzi, who demonstrated his martial arts skills using a machete and stick.

"We show all of this to make Pencak Silat more of an ancestral cultural heritage," she admitted.
